Town is quiet, the fishing is great and the weather is hard to beat right now. Whether you live here or are visiting, this is such a great time to be here in Truckee. We’d say maybe even our favorite time. At the end of the day, it’s hard to really choose a favorite though. Please note that we have begun our winter hours this week and will be open every day from 9-6 moving forward. Thank you to everyone that came and gave us a visit this summer!
September 18th Fly Fishing Report for the Truckee River, Little Truckee River

Fall Guided Trips
Autumn brings classic fall fly fishing conditions to our local rivers, making it the prime time to experience a guided half-day walk and wade trip with Trout Creek Outfitters. Whether you’re targeting eager trout during crisp morning hatches or mastering technical presentations through glassy runs, our expert guides are ready to put you on fish for an unforgettable autumn day on the water.
Truckee River Fishing Report
The flows out of Lake Tahoe have dropped from last week, holding around 75 CFS. Glenshire is right at 100 CFS, and it’s not until the Hirschdale exit where the 300 CFS out of Boca Reservoir has things really pick up and we see the Truckee in its typical form. Because of this, the Farad gauge is touting a steady 500 CFS, the same it’s been all summer. This will make for some excellent fishing in the canyon and we would recommend focusing on this section of the California side right now. The Nevada side is also fishing quite well along most sections. With water temps at the Sparks gauge topping out around 64 degrees over the last week, we have even begun to explore the lower river once again! This is small bug season on the Truckee, especially as we see continued clear and cool days in the forecast. We would recommend focusing primarily on flies in the 16-20 range, imitating either BWOs or midges. Stones and worms will still be worht a try, especially out east where water clarity is lower. We area also just a few weeks away from starting t throw some egg patterns as the browns near prespawn. With the cool air temps in the morning, don’t rush to get out early, the fishing will only get better as the day progresses.

Little Truckee Fishing Report
The Little Truckee continues to hold at 42 CFS. These are typical flows for this time of year, but in our opinion, a bit too low for fishing. With the great conditions on the main river, we would encourage anglers to fish the main river right now.
