Hard to know which is better, this weather or how quiet the river is right now. Either way, we are so stoked on the fishing this week. The conditions will likely not get a whole let better than this for the fall as the temps reach their ideal range for the fish and flows remain 500 in the canyon. I’ve always found it funny that just when the fishing gets good, there’s less people out there. Oh well, more for us, I guess!

Truckee River Fishing Report
The flows along Glenshire have dropped and are sitting at around 100 CFS. This is typical for this time of year, and while still fishable, may be less than ideal for most methods other than dry fly fishing. That said, we have been seeing some noses lately, with the main bugs being midges and BWOs, and we also expect to see some October caddis around any day now. These large fall bugs will provide the last large hatch of the fall and can bring up some of the biggest fish in the river as they attempt to fatten up for the lean months ahead. These adults will also provide a good dry dropper option for those fishing the skinnier water. If fishing down in the canyon, we would recommend starting to focus more on the indicator right now as fish push into slower water. Fishing stoneflies or October caddis pupa for your larger flies and BWOs or midges for your droppers will be best this week. With the drop in temps along the entire system, we are also resuming fishing out east, I.E. east of Sparks. If you haven’t fished this area you’re missing out! Little Truckee Fishing Report
The flows on the LT remain low. Additionally, we are nearing the brown trout spawn for this river. Because of this, we encourage anglers to give this river a break and let these fish recover after a long summer.
