The Umpqua Challenged PMD is a specialized, highly effective mayfly emerger pattern designed to imitate a Pale Morning Dun (PMD) struggling to hatch. This fly mimics the "crippled" stage—half in the water and half out—making it an irresistible target for trout feeding selectively during heavy PMD hatches. It should be fished dead-drift in the surface film during the morning or afternoon hatches when trout are visibly rising to slow-moving or stuck insects.
