The Umpqua Frostbite Chironomid is a proven stillwater killer, especially in early spring and late fall when colder temperatures dominate. Its defining feature is the namesake "Frostbite" body material, which provides a unique segmentation, durability, and a subtle shimmer that closely mimics the chironomid pupa's appearance. The popular red and copper color combination is scientifically observed to imitate the high-hemoglobin "bloodworm" stage of the insect. When suspended motionless under an indicator or subtly twitched, this fly is highly effective at drawing strikes from large, difficult-to-catch trout.
