Switch Rods
A switch rod falls in a category between long two handed Spey rods and shorter single hand rods that most anglers are accustomed to. A switch rod is typically from 11' to 12'6" in length and has a handle bellow the reel seat for two handed casting. A switch rod excels at making long roll casts and turning over leaders up to 12' in length.
Choosing the Right Reel for Pyramid Lake...
Please note - when shopping for the right reel to pair with your switch rod, the rule of thumb is to go 2 weights up from the rod. A 6 weight switch rod should be paired with an 8 weight reel. A 7 weight rod should be paired with a 9 weight reel and so on...
The larger sized reel makes space for the much thicker skagit style head that one pairs with a switch rod. This is critical, as these fish are often known to show an angler to their backing early into a fight.
