Umpqua Josh's Cosmic Crane

The Umpqua Josh's Cosmic Crane is a specialized dry fly pattern designed by Josh Smitherman to imitate the adult Crane Fly (Tipulidae), a large, long-legged terrestrial insect often found near water. Its key, unique feature is the reverse-tied hook which allows the fly to ride with the hook shank out of the water. This technique mimics the light-footed, spindly nature of the natural Crane Fly as it sits, floats, or flutters on the surface, making it exceptionally effective when fish are keyed in on this large, high-protein meal.
